On our clear Pacific Northwest Days, it’s not abnormal to see Mt. Rainier from the Valley beyond the already stunning natural beauty the valley offers – with rolling grassy hills and numerous trees. The Valley bumps up to JBLM land offering even more seclusion for those wanting to step away from city life.
The Valley offers numerous single-story ranch-style homes, and it’s not uncommon to have a shop or barn attached. Most properties are a minimum of one acre, but can reach out much further, with many properties already fully fenced. You will often find horse, sheep and cattle on the larger properties in the Evergreen Valley.
Evergreen Valley’s easy outdoor access gives you room to stretch your legs and let the kids play. It’s also incredibly equine and livestock friendly. Don’t know where to start? Try N Joy Arabians (pronounced “Enjoy Arabians”) horse training facility. Operated by local top trainer and instructor Joyce Thomas, this 60-acre indoor / outdoor facility specializes in training Arabian and half-Arabian horses. If you’re more of a dog person, Northwind Kennels & Fido’s Ranch supplies locals with their grooming and boarding needs.
At the northern end of the valley you can stop at the locally owned Evergreen Valley Grocery to grab your food, drinks and snacks for your next BBQ. Next door to the grocery store sits a quaint coffee stand, Evergreen Valley Espresso. The stand always offers something sweet and fun, with custom-made colorful drinks on the menu.

While I have noticed that some people complain that they chat too much with customers, I have NEVER had to wait more than a couple of minutes. For those that 1-2 minutes is too long to wait for something, TAKE A BREATH and relax…There is only ONE person working two windows here. This coffee and service as well as prices combined cannot be beat in my opinion….”

“This convenience store has a good selection of lottery tickets, which is the main reason I go here. Lottery sales are cash only, no debit cards. There is an ATM on premises, though. N Joy Arabian is a full-service training facility owned and operated by Joyce Thomas, who specializes in training and showing Arabian and Half Arabian horses. N Joy is located in Olympia, Washington in the beautiful Evergreen Valley.

Thane and Peggy Bryenton are the proud owners of the Evergreen Valley Lavender Farm in Olympia, WA, a boutique operation specializing in lavender products: fresh (seasonal) and dried flowers and buds, essential oils and hydrosols, bath and body products, arts and crafts. The farm (aka EVLF) also doubles as a popular, local getaway to simply read a book or take in the fresh air from one of the many seating areas peppered throughout the lavender fields.
Hunter Family Farm is one of the largest tree and pumpkin patches in the area. A great place to bring the entire family for a Christmas tree, a pumpkin or visit the farm animals.
River Ridge High School (RRHS), commonly referred to as Ridge, was established in 1993 and named for its proximity to the geographical ridge of the Nisqually River valley. It earned its school nickname due to its location within the Hawk’s Prairie area of Thurston County off Exit 111 of Interstate 5, serving students living in Mushroom Corner and Tanglewilde-Thompson Place.
River Ridge and its feeder school, Nisqually Middle School, serves many students with parents who are on active duty or have retired from the military due to its proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. River Ridge was constructed as a community solution to handle the over-flowing capacities of neighboring Timberline and North Thurston High Schools in the late 1980s-early 1990s, producing a more diverse student body population than the other two high schools in the district.
Woodland Elementary enjoys a supportive community. Parents and community members volunteer 800+ hours each month to a variety of projects that support learning throughout the school.
Woodland’s PTA is extremely active, supporting many family events and learning activities in classrooms each year.
