At the southernmost point of the Puget Sound lies Cooper Point, one of 4 peninsulae that make up the northern portion of Thurston County. This quiet sanctuary is a place to get away from it all while still being within easy reach of Olympia, Highway 101, and I-5. Take in the sunrises over Mount Rainier reflecting off of Budd Inlet or enjoy serene sunsets sweeping across the Olympic Mountain Range over the quiet Eld Inlet.
Within Cooper Point, there are homes to fit every lifestyle from quaint single bedroom apartments to gorgeous waterfront estates. The southern portion of Cooper Point features renovated American Craftsman and ranch style homes. Venturing north on Cooper Point Road leads you to sprawling cape cod mansions and contemporary waterfront estates.
Cooper Point communities share a suburban feel, enriched by the privacy that comes from being surrounded by lush Pacific Northwest wilderness and wildlife. Many communities maintain private waterfront access that is essential to peninsula living, perfect for relaxing onshore or as a launch off point for kayaking the sound. The western portion of Cooper Point is home to Evergreen State College, a public liberal arts university. The southern border of Cooper Point is loosely encapsulated by Highway 101 and Capital Mall, which boasts over 100 shops, 10 restaurants, and a 14 screen movie theater.
There are endless recreational areas throughout the Cooper Point community. Yauger Park hosts sports for all ages year-round with four ballfields (three lighted) that convert to soccer fields in the winter, as well as an adjacent skate park. Grass Lake Nature Park sits at the headwaters of green cove creek, boasting 171 acres of wetlands with a loop trail for wildlife viewing. Also located on Cooper Point’s Butler Cove is the Olympia Country and Golf Club, which features an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse, and fitness center.
In Cooper Point, you won’t just find a home, you’ll find a place to connect, to the water, and to the community.

Developed in 1982, this park was the vision of retired United States Army Colonel Yauger. Its 40 acres offer a wide range of recreation experiences: four ballfields (three lighted) that in fall and winter convert to three soccer fields, concession stand, jogging path, skate court, playground, horseshoe pits, community gardens and educational facility, pump track, and opportunities for viewing nature.
The most unusual feature of the park is the created wetland, which serves as a stormwater retention pond during heavy rains that would otherwise flood nearby streets. When it’s not filled to capacity, the area provides aquatic and upland habitat, inviting a variety of waterfowl into one of Olympia’s most urban environments.
Opened on April 1, 2000, this 11,500 sq. ft. concrete skating surface is a draw to local skaters who, along with the community and City support, made the project possible.

Grass Lake Nature Park is a dozing marvel of Olympia’s stop and open space stock. Securing the property was a relentless vigil for property proprietors, subject gatherings, Olympia City Council and staff in the late 1980’s. As the diligent work of all might be overlooked after some time, the place we call Grass Lake will help us interminably to remember our ties with nature.
The stop contains the headwaters of Green Cove Creek and a standout amongst the most earth in place wetland frameworks in northern Thurston County. More than 100 fowl species and 200 plant species have been recorded in the recreation center. Grass Lake Nature Park’s essential capacities are untamed life insurance, natural life seeing, and ecological training.
